Mr. Bean no fue la primera producción audiovisual de Rowan Atkinson, pero sí su éxito más destacable y querido entre la audiencia.
La serie se emitió por primera vez el día de Año Nuevo en 1990, en la programación especial de Thames Television. El personaje de Mr. Bean recibió cierta influencia del conocido Charles Chaplin, del que se puede apreciar el estilo de comedia muda tan característica del show.
La producción, para sorpresa de muchos, solo consta de 15 capítulos de 25 minutos cada uno. Esta peculiaridad se hizo notar últimamente en redes sociales, impresionando a buena parte de la audiencia joven, que creía haber visto más episodios de la serie. Lo cierto es que Mr. Bean fue emitido repetidas veces de manera internacional y logró cautivar al público de tal forma que no se hizo consciente de que lo que estaba viendo eran re-emisiones antiguas.

Rowan Atkinson es un fan declarado del personaje James Bond y la enorme saga de películas del agente 007. Tanto es así, que logró participar con un pequeño papel secundario en la película de 1983, Nunca digas nunca jamás, protagonizada por Sean Connery.
En el año 2003, Atkinson protagonizó una excelente parodia de este género con su otro gran personaje Johnny English. Bajo este título, interpretó a un maltrecho agente británico, muy cercano a la personalidad de Mr. Bean, pero esta vez envuelto en tramas de espionaje y acción policíaca.
El éxito incuestionable de la película lo llevó a continuar la historia con dos secuelas estrenadas en 2011 y 2018. Aventuras de humor absurdo y de enredo que mantienen al actor en lo más alto de la comedia internacional.

La carrera fílmica de Rowan Atkinson se remonta a 1981 con su primera interpretación de sí mismo en Fundamental Frolics. Desde entonces, no ha dejado de trabajar tanto en cine como en televisión. Algunos de sus proyectos más importantes son Nunca digas nunca de 1983, The Witches de 1990, Hot Shots!
